Chennai gets its Apple: Tech giant leases space for first corporate office in Porur

Chennai: In a major endorsement of Tamil Nadu’s capital as a global technology hub, Apple Inc. is set to establish its first dedicated corporate office in Chennai. The world’s largest technology company has signed an agreement to lease approximately 20,000 square feet of premium office space at the DLF CyberCity (Downtown) IT Park in Porur, marking its direct entry into the city’s corporate landscape.

Strategic Expansion: Apple’s Chennai GCC to Oversee Global Operations

While Apple’s iPhones have been manufactured in the state for years through suppliers like Foxconn in Sriperumbudur, this move represents the company’s first owned corporate office in Chennai. The facility will function as a Global Capability Centre (GCC), overseeing and managing key global operations. This strategic expansion places Chennai alongside Bengaluru and Hyderabad as critical Indian nodes for Apple’s corporate functions, significantly bolstering the city’s stature in the global IT corridor.

Porur Chosen for Infrastructure and Connectivity Advantages

Apple’s choice of the DLF Downtown complex in Porur is seen as a calculated move driven by infrastructure. The premium IT park already hosts several multinational corporations and offers high-quality amenities. Crucially, the location benefits from proximity to the Chennai International Airport and the anticipated connectivity of the upcoming Porur metro rail corridor, ensuring seamless access for talent and operations.
