Chemo, immunotherapy or surgery… indigenous supercomputer will tell which treatment is best for which type of cancer.

Even today cancer is a fatal disease. If it is detected in the beginning then it is fine, but if the disease is detected in the last stage then it becomes difficult to save the life of the patient. This is why early detection and proper treatment is very important in case of cancer. However, even today most of the cancer cases are detected late. To overcome this shortcoming, AIIMS Delhi and Center for Development of Advanced Computing, Pune have together created an artificial intelligence platform named iOncology.ai. It will work like a computer. With its help, doctors will be helped in early detection of cancer and preparing personalized treatment plans.

The biggest challenge in cancer cases is that sometimes the initial symptoms are not clearly detected. Even if there is cancer, it is not clearly detected in some tests, but with the help of new technology, information about the initial symptoms of cancer, its type and method of treatment can be easily obtained. However, iOncology.ai is currently in the trial phase. Continuous work is being done to develop it in a better way. If the results are good like this, then patients can be treated with its help in future.

What is iOncology.ai

Dr. Ashok Sharma, Additional Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, AIIMS New Delhi While talking to TV9, iOncology.ai, created with the help of AI, has been trained with the data of more than 5 lakh radiology and pathology images, due to which it can give information about cancer by identifying even very small tumors or early changes. This will make it easier to identify cancer.

This platform specifically focuses on accurate detection of rapidly increasing breast cancer and ovarian cancer in Indian women. If the disease is identified at the right time, treatment can be done easily. The special thing is that you will get information about which treatment is better for which cancer. It will also help in personalized treatment of cancer.

What is personalized cancer treatment?

Dr. Ashok explains that giving personalized treatment means giving accurate treatment to the patient according to the type of cancer he has. Dr. Ashok says that the treatment of a patient’s cancer is not only based on the type or location of the cancer but also on the basis of his body, genes and tumor. In personalized treatment, by identifying biomarkers from the tumor, it is decided whether targeted therapy and immunotherapy can be given to the patient along with normal treatment or not. Both these therapies are considered very effective in the treatment of cancer and are part of personalized treatment.

You will also know which treatment is better for which cancer.

With the help of iOncology.ai, it will be easy to know which personalized treatment will be suitable for which type of cancer. This is because every patient’s cancer is different, so if it is treated in its own way, then there is hope of getting better results. With the help of personalized treatment, the disease becomes easier to control. However, iOncology.ai is currently in the trial phase. Continuous work is being done to develop it in a better way. If the results are good like this, then patients can be treated with its help in future.

Fast and accurate testing with the power of supercomputer

Dr Ashok told that with the help of C-DAC’s super computing infrastructure, this AI tool can process millions of medical scans in a few seconds. Due to this, doctors get reports very quickly and there is no delay in starting treatment.

Dr Ashok said that apart from Delhi, this technology has been implemented as a pilot project in some district hospitals of the country, which also includes Mathura and Faridabad. Its objective is to provide diagnosis facilities like big hospitals even in small towns and rural areas.

If it is completely successful in the trial phase and gets better results, then in future it can completely change the direction of cancer treatment.
