Chelsea sign Garnacho from Man United, pull out of Nicolas Jackson’s loan deal

New Delhi: Chelsea informed Bayern Munich that they will not proceed with Nicholas Jackson’s loan deal after an injury to Liam Delap in the match against Fulham on Saturday. The London club also confirmed the signing of winger Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United. He signed a contract until June 2032, and is the second winger from United to join Chelsea after Jadon Sancho.

The decision to pull out of Jackson’s proposal was taken after discussions between Chelsea’s management and head coach Enzo Maresca. The London club has asked Jackson to return, after Delap suffered a hamstring injury, reports The Athletic. The striker is expected to be sidelined for up to eight weeks.

The same website reported on Saturday that the German champions have reached an agreement with Chelsea for a season-long loan with an option to buy worth a total package of €80million (£69m) for Jackson. The striker was permitted to travel to Germany to complete his medical with the Bundesliga Champions.

Delap joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town for £30million ($40m) this summer, and was withdrawn after 14 minutes at Stamford Bridge. He immediately gestured to his hamstring and was replaced by Tyrique George.

‘It’s an incredible moment for me and my family’: Garnacho

Manchester United and Chelsea had reached an agreement for Garnacho, in a deal worth £40million fixed fee and a 10 per cent sell-on clause. The World Champions had stepped up talks with Manchester United over the move on August 7, reports The Athletic.

“It’s an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club. I can’t wait to get started. I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special – we’re the best team in the world! It’s amazing to be here and I’m very happy,” Garnacho said after signing a contract with Chelsea.

Chelsea had a long-standing interest in the Argentina international, who didn’t have a great relationship with United head coach Ruben Amorim in recent times. Garnacho joined United’s academy from Atletico Madrid as a teenager in 2020, and made 144 senior appearances for the Red Devils, netting 26 goals and 22 assists.
