British singer-songwriter Charli XCX has addressed the backlash over the limited number of dates announced for the UK and European leg of her upcoming ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ tour, saying that touring is emotionally and physically demanding for her.
The 34-year-old artiste recently announced six arena shows for the 2027 run, with performances scheduled in Dublin, Glasgow, Manchester, London, Amsterdam and Paris. The announcement drew criticism from some fans who expected a longer European tour.
Responding to the backlash on Instagram, Charli XCX apologised to fans who felt disappointed but said she needed to remain true to her own limits as an artiste.
“I know there’s a lot of frustration in the comments about the fact that I am not doing lots of dates. I am really sorry if you feel disappointed but I have to honour my truth as an artist: touring is really emotionally and physically hard for me,” she wrote.
The singer said she had great respect for artistes who could handle long and demanding tours but acknowledged that she was not able to operate at that level.
“I am not looking for sympathy and I have a huge amount of respect for artists who can handle it at an intense, lengthy and high octane level, but I am just not one of those human beings and I never have been,” she added.
Charli XCX also said she hoped she might eventually become capable of undertaking the kind of extensive touring fans expect from her, but that she was not ready for it at present.
“If you’re coming to a show I hope you have fun and enjoy it,” she said, adding that she would do her best to maintain a healthy and positive mindset and enjoy the tour herself.
