Changes in ticket booking, Railways made Aadhaar verification mandatory

Indian Railways

Now a new rule has come into effect for those booking train tickets online. Indian Railways has made Aadhaar verification mandatory for online ticket booking in the morning. This verification will have to be done while booking tickets through IRCTC website or mobile app. According to the Railway Ministry, the purpose of this decision is to bring transparency in the ticket booking system and to stop brokers or those doing bulk booking. Officials say that this step has been taken to benefit genuine passengers and to prevent wrong ticket booking.

Aadhaar verification required from 8 am to 10 am

According to the new rules, now only those users whose IRCTC account will be verified with Aadhaar will be able to book reservation tickets from 8 am to 10 am on the first day of ticket booking. This rule has been implemented from 28 October 2025. However, there has been no change in the ticket booking timings at PRS counters. Similarly, for authorized agents, the ban on booking will continue for the first 10 minutes after the start of ticket sales so that bulk booking can be stopped. Even before this, Railways had made Aadhaar verification mandatory for the first 30 minutes of Tatkal ticket booking. The aim of all these steps is to make ticket booking fair and transparent.
