There are 3 types of lunar eclipses
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon. During this time, sunlight does not reach the Moon and the Moon is completely covered in the Earth’s shadow. This is called lunar eclipse. There are mainly three types of lunar eclipses. Total lunar eclipse, partial lunar eclipse and penumbral lunar eclipse. During a total lunar eclipse the Moon is completely hidden. It is called blood moon.

The blood moon is visible during a total lunar eclipse. During this time the Sun, Earth and Moon come in a straight line. After this, the Moon appears red due to the sunlight that comes filtered through the Earth’s atmosphere.

Second partial lunar eclipse occurs. During this time only a part of the Earth’s shadow (umbra) falls on the Moon. Due to this, some part of the moon gets hidden and some part becomes visible. Some part of the moon looks white and some black. This is called partial lunar eclipse.
penumbral lunar eclipse
The third and last penumbra is the lunar eclipse. When the Moon passes through the Earth’s light shadow (penumbra), it is called a penumbra. In this the moon appears slightly hazy than normal.
