Second Chandra Grahan 2026: The year 2026 has been very exciting for astronomers so far. This year one solar and one lunar eclipse has occurred. The world saw the lunar eclipse on the 3rd of this month. Now the eyes of astronomers and the world are fixed on the second and last lunar eclipse of the year. This lunar eclipse will take place in the month of August. Due to its visibility and colour, it is also considered very special.
Science calls it a blood moon, where a large part of the moon looks scarlet red like copper. Let us know when the lunar eclipse will occur in the month of August? Also let us know whether it will be seen in India?
Date and time of the second lunar eclipse of the year
The second lunar eclipse of 2026 will occur on the intervening night of August 27 and 28. It will start at noon Indian time (IST) on August 28, but the global start of this eclipse will be at 01:23 UTC. The eclipse will look most spectacular at 04:41 UTC. This eclipse will end at 07:02 UTC. In India this time will be between 06:53 am to 12:32 pm.
Will not be seen in India
This lunar eclipse will not be visible in India. Because at the time when the moon will be eclipsed, the sun will be shining in India and there will be daylight. This is the reason why this eclipse will not be visible astronomically in India. According to religious beliefs, when an eclipse is not visible, its Sutak period is also not valid.
Amazing view will be seen in the sky
According to astronomers, this will be a ‘partial lunar eclipse’, but then it will look like a complete one. Because during this time, up to 93 percent of the Moon will be covered by the Earth’s deep shadow. When the Earth’s shadow falls on the Moon, the Sun’s rays collide with the Earth’s atmosphere and get bent. Due to this, the moon appears dark red instead of being completely black.
Where will it be seen?
This lunar eclipse will be visible in North and South America, western parts of Europe and Africa and the eastern Pacific Ocean and Atlantic region.
