Chaitra Navratri 2026: The holy days of Navratri have started. Today is the second day of Navratri. The second day of Navratri is dedicated to the worship of Mata Brahmacharini. The devotees are immersed in the devotion of Mata Rani. Devotees are worshiping and fasting at this time to get the blessings of Goddess Durga. There is a religious belief that Goddess Durga is pleased by worshiping and fasting during Navratri. It is believed that whichever devotee worships with full devotion during Navratri and fasts for nine days, Mata Rani fulfills all his wishes and removes all his sorrows.
Special rules for eating during Navratri fast are mentioned in the religious scriptures. The fast is observed only by following these eating rules. If the eating rules are ignored, the fast is broken and Mata Rani gets angry. Not only this, the full fruit of fasting is also not achieved. Green chilli can be eaten during Navratri fast, but consumption of red chilli is prohibited. Let us know why this is so?
Reason for not eating red chilli during Navratri
Satvik and easily digestible fruits are eaten during Navratri fast. Green chilli is considered satvik, mild and better for digestion. Whereas red chilli has been kept in the category of tamasic food. Consuming red chilli increases excitement in the body. Not only this, eating red chilli can cause acidity and burning sensation, which is against the spiritual and physical rules of fasting. This is the reason why people consume green chillies and not red chillies during Navratri fast.
Consumption of these things is also prohibited during Navratri
During Navratri fast, one should stay away from wheat, rice, gram flour, semolina, flour, garlic, onion, normal iodized salt, meat and alcohol, fried and spicy foods, chips available in the market, packet juices and other processed foods. That means these things should not be consumed.
