India Census 2027 Budget: The central government has approved a big budget of Rs 11,718 crore for the 2027 census. This decision is special because census will be held for the first time in the country after 2011. The 2021 census was halted due to Covid-19, so now the census will be conducted in a new and completely digital way in 2027. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that census is not just a record keeping task, but it is the most important basis for deciding the plans and policies of the country.
After 2011, the next census will be held in 2027
Census has been happening in India for more than 150 years and it is a very important process for the country. The last census was conducted in 2011 and the 2021 census was postponed due to the Corona pandemic. Now the government has made it clear that the next census will be held on the basis of data fixed at midnight of March 1, 2027. This will be the eighth census after independence and the overall 16th census of India.
The census will be completed in two phases
The census is divided into two parts. In the first phase, information on the count of houses and their status will be collected in all the states and union territories between April to September 2026. State governments will decide the time of 30 days as per their convenience. In the second phase, the country’s population will be counted in February 2027. However, in Ladakh, upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal and snowy areas of Uttarakhand, this work will be done only in September 2026, because work is difficult here in winter.
For the first time, the entire census will be done digitally
The biggest feature of the 2027 census is that it will be completely digital. This time the data will be taken through a mobile app, which the enumerators will use on their phones. All the information will be updated in real time on a special system, which will reduce the scope for error and make the work much faster. People will also get the option to fill the online form themselves, which will make the census easier. For this, a new web map tool has also been created which will accurately record the location of the houses.
Caste based data will also be included in digital form for the first time.
It is also a big change that caste information will also be collected in the 2027 census. The government has already approved it. For the first time after independence, caste data will be recorded in electronic form in any census. This will help in making many policies and plans related to the society and it will be easier to understand what changes are taking place in the social structure of the country.
Big awareness campaign will be run in the entire country
People’s participation in the census is very important, hence the government will run a big campaign across the country, so that every person can know when the census is taking place and what they have to do for it. Such activities will be carried out everywhere in villages, towns and cities so that people can give correct information and no one faces any problem. The government’s effort is that this time access to every house should be easy and smooth.
30 lakh people will work in the census
This will be one of the largest field operations in the world. About 30 lakh people will be engaged in various census works. Most of these will be teachers from government schools, who will be given honorarium for this work. Apart from this, a large team of 18,600 technical employees will also work for 550 days to handle data, run the system and do online monitoring. This entire process will generate approximately 1.02 crore employment days, which will also provide many people with better skills for the future.
