CBSE class 12 re-evaluation window opens from May 19, board admits errors are possible

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education has opened the post-result review process for Class 12 students after declaring the 2026 board results. Students who are not satisfied with their marks will now be able to access their evaluated answer sheets and apply for verification or re-evaluation.

Speaking to ANI, CBSE Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj admitted that mistakes are possible during the evaluation process because of the huge number of answer sheets handled by the board every year.

“We evaluate approximately 1.25 crore answer scripts; there is a possibility that an error may occur somewhere. To rectify such errors, we offer certain facilities to our students,” he said.

He further added, “The CBSE is an institution that works in the best interest of the students, and we operate with complete transparency.”

Students can access evaluated answer sheets

As part of the process, students will first be allowed to apply for scanned copies of their evaluated answer books. The application window for this will remain open from May 19 to May 22.

After receiving the copies, students can carefully check their answers and compare them with the marking scheme to identify any discrepancies or calculation mistakes.

“If they identify any errors, they should make a note of them,” Bhardwaj said while explaining the procedure.

Verification and re-evaluation from May 26

CBSE will open the second phase of the process from May 26 to May 29. During this period, students can officially apply for verification of marks or re-evaluation based on the issues they find in their answer sheets.

The board has also clarified that marks may increase or decrease after the review process.

“If correcting that error results in the student being entitled to higher marks, those additional marks will be duly awarded,” Bhardwaj said. “If the correction of an error results in a lower score, the student’s marks will be reduced accordingly.”

The board has said the system is designed to ensure transparency and give students a fair chance to review their results.
