The largest and grandest church of Delhi
The Cathedral Church of the Redemption, located very close to Rashtrapati Bhavan, is not only one of the oldest churches in Delhi, but is also considered to be the largest church in the capital. Its huge building, high domes and beautiful glass give it a special identity. Special decorations are done here on the occasion of Christmas, its huge structure and serene atmosphere make it extremely popular among tourists and devotees.
Glorious History of the Cathedral Church
The main cathedral church of Delhi is also called Viceroy Church. Its construction started in 1927 and was completed in 1935, while it was opened to the general public on 18 January 1931. It is considered a major religious center of the Roman Catholic community. The architecture of this church built during the British period is influenced by European style, in which high arches, huge prayer hall and beautiful altar can be seen. During the British era, Lord Irwin, the Viceroy of India, used to come to this church regularly to pray. Many historical memories of that period are still preserved inside the church.

Design: This church was designed by the famous British architect Henry Medal.
Glimpse of Lutyens’ Delhi: It was built as part of Edward Lutyens’ master plan of Delhi.
Italian Style: Italian influence is clearly visible in the architecture of the church. Its roofs and arches are made in such a way that even in summer the temperature here remains much lower than outside.
lighting arrangement: Its windows are carved in such a way that during the day, natural light illuminates the interior of the church.
