New Delhi: Scotland’s Brandon McMullen produced an early contender for the Catch of the Tournament during his side’s opening match of the T20 World Cup 2026 against West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, February 07. McMullen pulled off a screamer near the boundary rope to dismiss the dangerous Shimron Hetmyer during West Indies’ innings.
The dismissal took place on the final delivery of the 19th over when Hetmyer was going all guns blazing in the middle, having completed a quickfire half-century. The left-hander smashed a high full-toss from pacer Safyan Sharif towards the wide mid-wicket region, and the ball seemed to be heading towards the boundary rope.
McMullen sprinted towards his left from long-on and went on to complete a stunning diving catch with both hands. It was a terrific grab from the Scotland player, who timed his run and jump to perfection and stretched his hand at the last moment to complete a stunner.

His sensational catch helped Sharif dismiss Hetmyer on 64 off 36 balls to shift momentum towards his side before the final over of West Indies’ innings. The dismissal helped Scotland finish on a high as Brad Curie gave away only 7 runs off the final over to restrict West Indies to 182/5 in 20 overs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Curie was the pick of the bowlers for Scotland in the game, finishing with excellent figures of 2/23 off his 4 overs.
