Chamari Athapaththu Injury: In the 12th match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 between India and Sri Lanka, a scene was seen which scared every player and fan. In the match played between Sri Lanka and England on 11 October in Colombo, the captain of the host Sri Lankan team Chamri Atapattu got injured, due to which she fell on the field. Atapattu was so troubled by the pain that it became difficult for him to even walk and then he had to be taken out of the field with the help of a stretcher.

In this match held on Saturday, England batted first and scored a strong score of 253 runs. In response, captain Atapattu and Hasini Perera started the innings for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka needed a big innings from its captain to win this match but before Atapattu could show anything amazing with her bat, she became the victim of a painful injury and had to leave the field.

Pain in leg while running, went out on stretcher

This incident happened in the sixth over of Sri Lanka’s innings. On the third ball of spinner Linsey Smith, Atapattu moved forward and played a shot towards midwicket and ran for a run. But as soon as he started running, he started having pain in his legs. As soon as she reached the non-strike end, she threw the bat on the ground and fell there herself. Seeing his condition, the second opener, the England player and the umpire also reached the field. The physio of the Sri Lankan team also immediately arrived to examine their captain. When Atapattu still felt pain in getting up, she was made to lie down on a stretcher and then taken off the field.

Atapattu returned to the field after getting fit

When Atapattu returned to the pavilion after being ‘retired hurt’, she was playing on 7 runs and Sri Lanka’s score was 18 runs. In such a situation, the Sri Lankan team came under tension because this run chase was not going to be easy for them without the captain. However, it is a matter of relief that Atapattu’s injury was not serious and it was limited only to leg strain. The Sri Lankan medical team soon made her fit and then when the team’s third wicket fell in the 23rd over, Atapattu returned to the crease again. The special thing was that when she came on the field again, she came running, which was enough to show that she was fit for batting again.
