‘Can’t Stay with Those Satisfying One Community’: Shyamal Nath and 15 Other Functionaries Return to BJP; Party Welcomes ‘Homecoming’

Shyamal Nath, who held the post of District Vice President in the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has returned to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Nath is a well-known leader of various social organizations of the Nath and Yogi communities and had previously joined the BJP before the last Assembly elections.

Controversial Reason for Defection:

While in the TMC, Shyamal Nath handled various responsibilities for the Nath Yogis in several Northeastern states, including Tripura and Assam. He is also currently the Secretary of the Alipurduar College Halt Businessmen’s Association. With the Assembly elections approaching, he has switched parties again.

On Thursday, Shyamal Nath formally joined the BJP at the District BJP office, where he was welcomed by District BJP President Mithu Das.

Explaining his decision to defect, Shyamal Nath made a controversial statement. He said, “I am a Sanatani Hindu. I cannot stay with those who conduct all their work to satisfy a specific community. There is a conspiracy underway to turn West Bengal into Bangladesh or Pakistan. That is why I cannot remain with them. Personally, I have no conflict with anyone.”

BJP Camp Elated:

The BJP camp is naturally delighted with Shyamal Nath’s defection. District BJP President Mithu Das stated, “Along with Shyamal Babu, 15 other functionaries from the Trinamool joined our party today at the district office. We have welcomed everyone. This has further strengthened the hands of Modiji.”
