Canada has updated several immigration fees starting December 1, 2025. The new prices mainly affect inadmissibility-related applications and the International Experience Canada (IEC) work permit.
If someone applied online and paid before midnight on December 1, nothing changes for them. People who applied on paper may need to pay the difference.
Higher Fees for Inadmissibility Applications
The changes apply to:
- Authorization to Return to Canada
- Temporary Resident Permits
- Criminal Rehabilitation
- Restoration of Temporary Resident Status
Most restoration and permit applications now cost $246.25. Criminal rehabilitation can go up to $1,231.00 if the case involves serious criminality.
Returning to Canada after a removal now costs $492.50. Temporary Resident Permits also rise to $246.25.
Restoration of Status
Visitors, students, and workers who lose their temporary status still have 90 days to apply for restoration if they want to stay in Canada. The updated fees apply whether or not the person is also asking for a new permit.
IEC Work Permit Fee Has Also Increased
People entering Canada through the International Experience Canada (IEC) program must pay the work permit processing fee. It has increased from $179.75 to $184.75.
The IEC pools for the 2025 season are now closed. Profiles can be submitted again when the 2026 season opens.
What To Do If Someone Paid The Old Fee
IRCC will contact applicants who mailed their applications before the fee change and explain how to pay the difference.
To complete the payment:
- Calculate the difference between the old and new fee
- Pay through IRCC’s online tool under “Make an additional payment or pay other fees”
- Upload or send the receipt as instructed
After paying, you must upload the payment receipt as instructed. Each payment creates one receipt, so applicants can choose to pay the difference all at once or in separate transactions.
