A woman living in China’s Jiangsu province was admitted to the hospital in critical condition last month, with purple and red marks like snake skin all over her body.
The 40-year-old woman, identified as Tingting (name changed), was admitted to Zhongda Hospital (Southeast University) in Nanjing, Jiangsu in October. According to doctors, she had been using a cream for a long time without any medical advice. The woman is also suffering from obesity and high blood pressure.
Woman suffering from itching had ordered skin cream online
Tingting said that this problem started about ten years ago, when red spots and itching appeared on the lower part of her leg. The itching increased and gradually the lesions spread all over the body. To get relief, she ordered a skin cream from the internet.
The seller claimed it was made from “pure traditional Chinese medicine” and could “cure all types of skin problems.” However, the name of the product was not revealed.
Spent Rs 12 lakh in ten years
Tingting believed the advertisement and bought the cream and kept using it for about ten years. During this period he spent approximately 1 lakh yuan (about Rs 12 lakh).
In the initial days, he felt some difference and felt that the disease would go away, but gradually his condition kept worsening. Dark red and purple marks like snake skin formed on the body and the skin started cracking.
Treatment is going on in the hospital
Dr. Wang Fei, a skin specialist at Zhongda Hospital, found that the level of cortisol in the patient’s body had reduced significantly. She is suffering from a condition called secondary adrenocortical insufficiency. According to doctors, now after treatment the woman’s condition is gradually improving.
