According to sources, the President will address the joint session of Parliament on January 28, which will mark the beginning of the budget session. The Economic Survey will be presented in Parliament on January 29. Sources said that the first part of the budget session of Parliament will run from January 28 to February 13, while the second part of the session will run from March 9 to April 2.

Let us tell you that this time Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present her ninth consecutive Union Budget, which will be the 88th budget after independence. Since 2017, the government has adopted the practice of presenting the Union Budget at 11 am on 1 February, replacing the old tradition of 28 February.

This change was first implemented during the tenure of former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, with the aim of speedy implementation of budget proposals from the beginning of the new financial year. However, presenting the budget on the weekend would be nothing new.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had presented the Budget of 2025 on Saturday, while former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had presented the Union Budget of 2015 and 2016 on February 28 and both these dates were Saturday.

With the presentation of the budget on February 1, 2026, Nirmala Sitharaman will come close to the record of former Prime Minister Morarji Desai, who presented a total of 10 budgets in two terms. Desai presented the budget 6 times between 1959 and 1964, and 4 times between 1967 and 1969.
