Strengthening Ayurveda education and research
In the Union Budget 2026, the government has made big announcements to strengthen traditional Indian wellness systems like Ayurveda and Yoga. Considering the increasing interest in Ayurveda and Yoga across the world, there is a clear strategy in the budget to link them with health, employment and research. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that skill development and institutional framework will be strengthened to give a new identity to India’s traditional medical systems at the global level.
1.5 lakh caregivers will get training
A plan to train 1.5 lakh caregivers for yoga and wellness services has been announced in Budget 2026. This will not only improve the quality of wellness services in the country, but will also create new employment opportunities for the youth. The government believes that it is not possible to meet the global demand of the wellness sector without trained human resources.
Strengthening Ayurveda education and research
The Finance Minister has announced the establishment of three new All India Institutes of Ayurveda to promote the study and research of Ayurveda. Along with this, seven new institutes for Ayurveda will also be opened. Through these institutions, along with education, research will also get a new direction and India will be able to become a global center of Ayurvedic knowledge.
Special focus on allied health sector
Allied health sector has also been given great priority in the budget. 10 new allied health subjects like Optometry, Anesthesia, Applied Psychology and Behavioral Health will be started. A target has been set to train one lakh allied health professionals in these areas in the next five years, which will improve both access and quality of health services.
Promotion of pharma education and medical research
To strengthen pharmaceutical education and research, it has been proposed to open three new National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) and upgrade seven existing institutes. Apart from this, there is a plan to create a network of 1,000 recognized clinical trials across the country, which will give impetus to medical research.
Regional development will also get a boost
There is also a proposal in the budget to open a new design institute in North-East India. Its objective is to bring forward regional balance and local talent. Overall, Budget 2026 has taken concrete steps towards establishing India’s traditional strengths on the global stage by combining Ayurveda, Yoga, Wellness, Health Education and Research.
