SNL 4G towers:
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has recently issued tenders for setting up 10,000 new 4G towers in Delhi Telecom Circle. With this step, people of the National Capital Region (NCR) will benefit from better mobile network and internet connectivity.

Along with BSNL, MTNL users will also benefit from this because the networks of both the companies are interconnected. This step will further strengthen the network of BSNL and will reduce the coverage problem in the capital to a great extent.

BSNL’s 4G network expansion across the country
In September, BSNL had launched about 1 lakh new 4G towers across the country so that users can get fast and stable network connection. This is one of the company’s biggest network upgrade initiatives so far. After this expansion, BSNL aims to provide strong connectivity in every part of the country so that digital reach can be increased in both rural and urban areas.

Opex model will increase the network
BSNL Chairman A. Robert J. Ravi told that the company is now going to adopt a new business model for expanding its network. Talking to ETTelecom, he said, “We have issued a tender on Opex model for 10,000 new sites.” Under the Opex model, BSNL will not need to purchase equipment. Instead the company will use the tower on rent every month for 10 years. This method will reduce expenses and make network expansion faster. If this model is successful then BSNL is planning to implement it in the entire country.

BSNL’s 5G-ready network
This new network plan of BSNL in Delhi is not limited to just 4G. The company is also going to launch “5G Network-as-a-Service (NaaS)” soon. It is being told that all these new towers are 5G-ready and completely based on indigenous technology. This means that as soon as BSNL launches 5G, users will be able to experience high-speed internet immediately. This is a big step towards India’s indigenous network infrastructure.

5G network is growing rapidly in India
This upgrade of BSNL is part of the ongoing 5G race in India. According to the report of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), by October 2025, the number of 5G towers in the country has increased to 5,08,732. This is 4,144 towers more than in September. In October, Uttar Pradesh installed the maximum 846 new 5G towers, while 528 new towers were added in Maharashtra and 420 new towers were added in Bihar.

5G race of Jio, Airtel and Vi
India’s major telecom companies like Jio and Airtel have already started their 5G services across the country. Whereas Vodafone Idea (Vi) has so far launched its 5G service in 29 cities and is planning to expand it to 17 more major areas soon. With the entry of BSNL, competition in the 5G market is likely to increase further. With the support of the government and the help of indigenous technology, BSNL can once again make its strong place in the telecom industry in the coming times.
