It comes after a complaint was lodged by Hydraa. A case has been booked under relevant sections of the BNS and Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act, the police said.
HMDA specified demarcations of Durgam Cheruvu in 2014:
The complaint by Hydraa details that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) had put out a Full Tank Level (FTL) notification in 2014 and clearly marked boundaries of Durgam Cheruvu.
Despite the notification in 2014, K Prabhakar and Venkat Reddy encroached the lake area and dumped soil, stones and construction debris, steadily occupying on portions of the lake.
BRS MLA accused of earning revenue from encroached land via commercial parking:
Hydraa officials conducted a detailed survey and confirmed that the lake has been encroached upon continuously since 2014. The land was being reportedly used illegally for parking STS private transport buses, which mainly cater to school and IT companies in Madhapur-Hitec city areas.
The accused has been earning revenue by leasing encroached land for commercial parking, officials said. The parking operations were generating up to Rs 50 lakh in revenue, officials estimated.
‘Allegations of encroachment baseless’:Kotha Prabhakar
Speaking to the media, the BRS MLA said, “A case was booked against me for allowing private vehicle parking. I do not own any land in Durgam Cheruvu and if it is proven that I encroached even an inch of government land, I am ready to face any action. The case was filed for parking vehicles on the road and under trees. There is no government land at that location. The allegation of encroachment on Durgam Cheruvu is completely baseless & case has been filed with personal vendetta against me.”
