Bridge worth Rs 4 crore collapsed in Bihar during assembly elections 2025

A ₹4 crore bridge built in 2019 on Parman river in Araria, Bihar collapsed. The incident has disrupted traffic between Forbesganj and Pategana. There were no casualties in this accident which took place during the assembly elections.

Araria: The countdown for assembly elections 2025 has started in Bihar. Meanwhile, a bridge built here just six years ago at a cost of crores has collapsed. It was fortunate that there was no vehicle on the bridge at the time of the incident, due to which a major accident was averted. This bridge was built on Parman river in Araria at a cost of crores of rupees. A pillar of the bridge fell into the river, cutting off connectivity between Pategana and Forbesganj blocks.

According to reports, a part of the Kauchar bridge built on Parman river in Kewalshi village of Forbesganj block of Araria has fallen into the river. Due to this, connectivity between Forbesganj and Pategana has been disrupted.

On this matter, Chandrashekhar Kumar, Executive Engineer, Rural Works Department, Araria, told a media over phone that a four-span bridge was built on Parman river at a cost of about Rs 4 crore. But one of its pillars has fallen into the river.

At present, the atmosphere of assembly elections is heated in Bihar, and candidates of all parties are busy seeking votes by accusing each other. This incident happened at this exact time. The collapse of this bridge over Parman River, built at a cost of crores of rupees, has become a matter of major debate at the local level.

An official said that a pillar of a small bridge collapsed on Monday in Araria district. He said that no one was injured in this incident that took place in Forbesganj. Speaking to PTI about this, District Magistrate (DM) Anil Kumar said that he has sought a detailed report on the incident.

Collapse of new bridges in Bihar is not a new thing

Officials have said that due to the collapse of the bridge pillar, traffic on the bridge has been completely stopped and a team of technical experts from the RWD department will be sent to investigate the incident. Collapse of bridges in Bihar is not a new thing. Last year, several under-construction and recently constructed bridges in the state had collapsed. Last year, 12 bridges, including small and big, had collapsed in different districts of the state. Bihar Assembly elections are being held in 2 phases on 6th and 11th of this month, and the results will be out on 14th November.
