When the police, which is responsible for providing justice to the common people, starts keeping the law in its pocket, then deep questions arise on trust. The image of Uttar Pradesh Police has once again suffered a blow. A woman sub-inspector and a constable posted at Muradnagar police station in Ghaziabad have been arrested red-handed by the Meerut Anti-Corruption Team for taking bribe. This action not only exposes the alleged illegal extortion going on within the police department, but also highlights the helplessness of common citizens.

Female Inspector Priya Singh, in-charge of Pink Booth of Muradnagar police station, and her colleague constable Shahid have been arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 50 thousand. Together, both of them had made an alleged plan to bargain in a family dispute, but this whole game got exposed due to the promptness of the anti-corruption team.

Dowry harassment case became the reason for bribery

This matter is related to accountant Rajneesh posted in Meerut Sadar tehsil. Rajneesh’s wife Chanchal had filed a dowry harassment case against him, due to which Rajneesh had to go to jail. The investigation of this case was with the pink booth in-charge of Muradnagar police station, Inspector Priya Singh.

It is alleged that during this investigation, the Inspector started bargaining with Rajneesh by putting pressure on the case. According to Rajneesh, the inspector put forward two conditions – first, the names of his elderly parents would be removed from the case. Secondly, other serious sections will not be increased in the case.

Demand of two lakhs, deal finalized for Rs 50 thousand

In exchange for these conditions, Inspector Priya Singh allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. After much negotiation, the deal was finalized for Rs 50 thousand. Constable Shahid played the role of middleman in this entire dealing. Fed up with the Inspector’s constant threats and demands for money, Rajneesh finally contacted the Meerut Anti Corruption Team and lodged a complaint about the entire matter.

Trap laid in police station, arrest red handed

After verifying the complaint, the anti-corruption team laid a trap. On Friday, as soon as Rajneesh gave 50 thousand rupees in cash to Inspector Priya Singh and constable Shahid inside Muradnagar police station, the team already present caught both of them red handed. This action was taken under the leadership of Inspector Archana of Meerut Anti Corruption Team. Inspector Yogesh Dhama, SI Rahul Dev Tomar and other officers were included in the team. The news of the arrest created a stir in the Ghaziabad Police Department.

Victim’s allegation, bribe was being demanded by threatening

Complainant Rajneesh told that initially Rs 2 lakh was demanded from him. The Inspector was repeatedly threatening that if the money was not given, her parents’ names would not be removed from the case and she would be implicated in new cases. Out of compulsion he decided to take the help of the anti-corruption team.

Case registered under Prevention of Corruption Act

After the arrest, both the accused were brought to Modinagar police station, where a case has been registered against them under the Prevention of Corruption Act. After this, the anti-corruption team took both of them to Meerut, where they are being interrogated further. This case once again raises the question that when bargaining starts taking place in the court itself, then whom should the common man trust?
