The investigation began after a former AIADMK functionary, Prasad, arrested for drug trafficking, alleged that he supplied drugs, including cocaine, to Srikanth. Medical tests have proven that the actor consumed narcotic substance.

Medical tests confirm Srikanth’s drug use

The Chennai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) questioned the actor, and medical tests at Kilpauk Government Hospital reportedly confirmed drug use, leading to his arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. A News18 Tamil report earlier claimed that the police are investigating whether Srikanth bought one gram of cocaine for Rs 12,000.

Who is Srikanth?

Srikanth (born Krishnamachari Srikanth on February 28, 1979) is a prominent South Indian film actor known for his work in Tamil and Telugu cinema. Born in Chennai to a Telugu father and a Tamil mother, he spent part of his childhood in Hyderabad. He began his acting journey with the Tamil television serial Jannal – Marabu Kavithaigal in 1999, directed by the legendary K. Balachander.

His breakthrough in films came with the 2002 Tamil romantic drama Roja Kootam, directed by Sasi, which earned him widespread recognition. He followed it up with successful films like April MaadhathilManasellam, and Parthiban Kanavu, the last of which won him a Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize.

In Telugu cinema, he is credited as ‘Sriram’ and has acted in various genres. Married to Vandana since 2008, Srikanth is a father of two. His filmography consists of films – Manasellam, Varnajalam, Kana Kandein, Oru Naal Kanavu, Bambara Kannale, Mercury Pookkal, East Coast Road, Poo, Sathurangam, and Nanban. He was also seen in the JioHotstar web series Harikatha.
