A horrific accident occurred due to brake failure of a government bus in Salem, Tamil Nadu. The bus hit a van and a two-wheeler, killing 8 people, including a pregnant woman and a child. The driver has been arrested.
Chennai: A heart-wrenching accident happened on Friday morning on the Salem-Coimbatore National Highway in Tamil Nadu. Here the brakes of a government bus failed, following which eight people, including a pregnant woman and an 11-month-old girl, lost their lives in a series of accidents. According to initial reports, the accident occurred due to brake failure of the bus.
The incident occurred near Uttamcholapuram around 11 am on Friday morning. The government bus was going from Erode to Salem and had more than 30 passengers on board. A driver named Ayyandurai was driving the bus. Suddenly the brakes of the bus failed and it went out of control. The speeding bus broke the divider and went to the other side of the road and hit a two-wheeler and a pickup van coming from the front.
Wreaked havoc on family going to festival
There were 11 people in the pickup van, who were going from Naikkarapatti to Kalparapatti to attend a temple festival. The collision with the bus was so severe that the van was blown to pieces and four people died on the spot. Five of the people traveling in the van died, including three-month-old pregnant Satya (25), an 11-month-old baby girl and 5-year-old girl Nitishka. At the same time, three people riding on a two-wheeler also became victims of this terrible accident.

Immediately after the accident, local people and passers-by started rescue operations. The injured have been admitted to nearby government and private hospitals. It is being told that the condition of eight people still remains critical. Bus driver Ayyandurai, who fled from the spot after the accident, was later arrested by the police.
