Ayan Mukherji’s Brahmastra 2 is left in the lurch after Jio Studios has pulled out. Bollywood Hungama landed the scoop.
A trade source revealed to Bollywood Hungama, “Ayan Mukerji’s production house, Starlight Pictures Private Limited, was one of the producers of Brahmastra’s first part and the banner holds the rights to the film’s IP. Starlight will be producing Brahmastra 2 and they are looking at a studio partner to come on board. The makers were in discussions with Jio Studios to come on board as the studio partner for Brahmastra 2. However, those talks did not materialise and Jio has now decided against associating with the sequel. Interestingly, Star Studios was one of the key partners on the first Brahmastra. With Star’s entertainment business now part of JioStar, and Jio Studios also operating under the larger ecosystem, there was an expectation that the association could continue with the franchise. However, as things stand, neither Jio Studios nor Star Studios is involved with Brahmastra 2.”
Reports indicate Ranbir Kapoor will return to Brahmastra 2 after finishing the second part of Ramayana. He might be the sequel in April 2027. Ranbir will reportedly play both Dev and Shiva, while is expected to play Amrita. Alia Bhatt, who had a significant role in the first film, will have a much smaller part this time. The second part will further expand the Astraverse. A trilogy was originally planned.
Post-Alpha, which scored a dismal performance, Alia Bhatt is busy shooting for Love & War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film reunites her with , while will also star in the project. The movie is scheduled to release in January 2027. Deepika, meanwhile, has King with lined up for release in December, followed by Atlee’s Raaka opposite Allu Arjun next year.
