In 2010, BJP candidate Dilmarni Devi won here. He polled 46,196 votes and defeated RJD candidate Ajit Chaudhary by 20,342 votes. At that time the people of Brahmapur gave a chance to BJP and this victory was important for the party.
2015 Brahmapur Assembly Elections: RJD makes a strong comeback
Things changed in 2015. RJD’s Shambhunath Yadav registered a landslide victory. He got 94,079 votes while BJP’s Vivek Thakur could get only 63,303 votes. This time RJD won by a huge margin of 30,776 votes and took a strong hold on the seat.
2020 Brahmapur Assembly Election: Shambhunath Yadav’s second victory
Shambhunath Yadav (RJD) won the election again in 2020. He defeated LJP candidate Hulas Pandey by getting 90,176 votes. Hulas Pandey got only 39,035 votes. Shambhunath Yadav won this election by 51,141 votes. This result shows that the people of Brahmapur continue to trust RJD.
Note: RJD MLA Shambhunath Yadav, owner of movable and immovable property worth Rs 7.59 crore, is 10th pass. A total of four criminal cases are pending against him and he is the first MLA who has more debts than assets. His total liability is Rs 13.49 crore.
