Khaleda Zia Death: Both the matches of Bangladesh Premier League scheduled to be held on December 30 have been cancelled. Actually, former Bangladesh PM Khaleda Zia passed away on Tuesday morning, after which this decision was taken. BCB announced that the match between Sylhet Titans and Chattogram Royals at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium has been postponed. The second match of the day which was to be played between Dhaka Capitals and Rangpur Riders will also not take place.

BCB expressed grief over the death of Khaleda Zia

BCB expressed condolences on the demise of Khaleda Zia. The board issued a statement saying, ‘BCB remembers Zia’s continuous blessings and good wishes for the progress of cricket in this country. During his tenure as Prime Minister, he provided excellent support for the development of cricket in Bangladesh, contributing significantly to the improvement of cricket infrastructure and the development of the game across the country. His forward thinking and encouragement had paved the way for the success the sport has achieved today.

BCB further wrote, ‘In mourning of the nation and out of respect for the legacy of Begum Khaleda Zia, the Bangladesh Cricket Board cancels today’s scheduled Bangladesh Premier League matches. Their schedule will be released soon.

Khaleda Zia passes away at the age of 80

Begum Khaleda Zia died during treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday morning. She was 80 years old. Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on 23 November due to lung infection. The former Prime Minister was suffering from heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis and kidney problems for a long time, earlier this month she was also sent to London for treatment.
