The English version of Toxic hit theatres in India on September 4, but the response has been extremely poor, adding to the film’s box-office troubles.
The original Kannada version, along with the dubbed Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam versions, had already released on August 26.
With weak word of mouth and strong competition from Hanuman Ansh and Mirzapur The Movie, the English version received a very limited release.
It was screened in just 11 shows across only four cities — Mumbai, Bengaluru, Gurugram and Noida.
According to early estimates, the English version collected only around Rs. 1.40 lakh on its opening day. Occupancy was relatively better in Mumbai and Bengaluru, while fewer than 25 tickets were reportedly sold in Gurugram and Noida.
Overall, only around 450 tickets were sold across India on the first day.
With the film already struggling at the box office and the English version posting such weak numbers, its show count is expected to reduce further over the weekend.
At this pace, the lifetime collection of the English version may not even cross Rs. 10 lakh.
Meanwhile, Toxic reportedly collected around Rs. 1.50-1.60 crore across all languages on September 4.
The Kannada version contributed approximately Rs. 75-80 lakh, while the Hindi version added around Rs. 70-75 lakh, according to early estimates.
The extended first-week collection of the Hindi version stands at around Rs. 130.09 crore.
It now remains to be seen whether the Hindi version of Toxic can cross the Rs. 150 crore mark.
