The makers of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai got a last-minute relief as the vacation bench of the Bombay High Court refused to stay its release.
Puja Films has approached the court with urgent orders to stall the June 5 release of the romantic comedy amid the ongoing legal battle over the copyright of Chunnari Chunnari and Ishq Sona Hai songs. Justice Farhan P Dubash did not grant immediately relief to the Vashu Bhagnani-owned production house. Advocate Neha Bhavsar appeared for Puja Entertainment, whereas Senior Advocate Ravi Kadam, along with advocates Hiren Kamod, Rohan Kadam, Ayaz Bilawala and Dhanashree Gaikaiwari, represented Tips. Senior Advocate Ashish Kamat and advocates Ameet Naik, Madhu Gadodia, Vivek Dwivedi, Jasmeet Kaur and Fatima Ali were present in court on behalf of David Dhawan.

According to Bar And Bench’s report, Justice Dubash said that the court is not inclined to entertain Puja Entertainment’s urgent application, seeking relief against Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and the songs, and Ishq Sona Hai from Biwi No 1. The next hearing is scheduled for June 8.
Puja Entertainment vs HJTIHH makers
and Tips have been in a legal battle for the past few months. The former alleged that the Ramesh Taurani-founded production house breached copyright rules and sought damages of around Rs 400 crore along with wide injunctive reliefs. The songs in question originally featured in Biwi No 1 starring Salman Khan, Sushmita Sen and Karisma Kapoor.
The Bombay High Court Justice Dubash further noted during Thursday’s hearing that Puja Entertainment had already filed a plea before a civil court in Bihar in April 2026, seeking similar relief. The Bihar court, in May, had granted an ex parte urgent ‘status quo’ order, which the Patna High Court upheld. As per Bar And Bench, the order was stayed by the Supreme Court on May 22.
As per the report, Justice Dubhash further recorded that Puja Entertainment applied to withdraw the Bihar suit with liberty to approach the Bombay High Court. However, no orders had been passed on that application. Against this, Tips argued in court that this amounted to forum shopping. The legal representatives also stated that there was no explanation for the delay in approaching the Bombay High Court while being fully aware that Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai was slated for a June 2026 release.
