Dehradun: A wave of bomb threats shook Uttarakhand on Thursday, targeting four courts in a single day. Threatening emails were received by the Nainital High Court and the district courts of Dehradun, Nainital, and Champawat, prompting immediate security action.
The Champawat District Court received a bomb threat email addressed to the District Judge. Police quickly searched the entire complex. Inspector B.S. Bisht confirmed that no suspicious material was found. However, a dog squad from Pithoragarh was called in to conduct another round of checks. Entry into the court premises was restricted, and only those with valid identification were allowed inside.
Nainital High Court
The situation escalated when the Nainital High Court also received a threatening email. Panic spread as police sealed the court premises. Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and other judges were evacuated to a safe location. A large police force, including SSP Manjunath TC, bomb disposal squads, and dog squads, carried out intensive searches inside and outside the court.
For security reasons, all entrance gates were closed. Lawyers gathered in the court grounds as senior judges held an emergency meeting with the High Court Bar Association. Bar Association President Dinesh Singh Rawat confirmed that the threatening email was received at the Registrar General’s office, leading to a full-scale search operation.
Other courts targeted
Similar emails were also reported at Dehradun district court and Nainital district court. Earlier, on Wednesday, courts in Uttarkashi, Tehri, and Rudraprayag had received similar threats. This pattern has raised serious concerns among intelligence agencies, which are now on high alert.
Security measures
Police forces across Uttarakhand have intensified security checks at court complexes. Bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and senior officials are supervising the searches. Movement inside court premises is being strictly monitored, and public entry has been restricted.
Public safety concerns
Authorities stressed that the threats are being taken seriously to ensure the safety of judges, lawyers, staff, and the public. Intelligence agencies are investigating the source of the emails and whether they are part of a coordinated attempt to disrupt judicial functioning.
Atmosphere of fear and tension across Uttarakhand’s judicial institutions
The bomb threats have created an atmosphere of fear and tension across Uttarakhand’s judicial institutions. While no explosives have been found so far, the incident highlights the need for stronger cyber monitoring and enhanced security at sensitive locations. Investigations are ongoing, and security agencies remain on high alert.
