Bomb threats at Nainital and Uttarkashi courts spark panic; police, dog squads and bomb disposal teams investigate

Nainital/Uttarkashi: Panic spread across two district courts in Uttarakhand on Monday after bomb threats were received through email.

Police immediately sealed the premises, evacuated staff, and launched intensive searches with dog squads and bomb disposal teams.

Nainital court threat

Around 9:45 a.m., the District Judge of Nainital received an email claiming that RDX had been planted in the judge’s chamber and would explode soon. The message also demanded halting the implementation of EWS reservations in Tamil Nadu and ordered the court to be vacated by 12:15 p.m.

Outsiders were allowed only after strict checking

As the news spread, chaos erupted in the court premises. SP Jagdish Chandra and CO Ravikant Semwal rushed to the spot with heavy police force. Entry routes were closed, and outsiders were allowed only after strict checking. The dog squad and bomb disposal squad searched all offices and chambers. Police confirmed that no suspicious object has been found yet, but the search continues.

Uttarkashi court threat

A similar situation unfolded in Uttarkashi, where reports of a bomb forced the evacuation of the District Court. District Judge Gurubaksh Singh, lawyers, and staff were moved out as precautionary measures. Panic gripped the area as police cordoned off the premises.

Authorities said a bomb squad team from Dehradun is on its way to Uttarkashi. Only after their investigation will the court premises be reopened for judges and lawyers.

Incidents have raised serious concerns

Both incidents have raised serious concerns about security in judicial institutions. Police have transformed the court premises into high-security zones, treating the threats with utmost seriousness. Officials said that even though no explosives have been found so far, every corner of the premises is being thoroughly checked.

While investigations are ongoing, the immediate police response helped prevent panic from escalating further. Authorities are expected to strengthen security measures in courts across the state to ensure safety of judges, lawyers, and the public.
