Bomb threat sparks swift security sweep at Delhi CM’s Secretariat & Maulana Azad Medical College

New Delhi: A bomb threat email targeting Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) and the Delhi Chief Minister’s Secretariat sparked a swift security response in the capital on Tuesday afternoon. The email warned of possible detonations at MAMC around 2:45 PM and at the Secretariat at 3:30 PM.

Following the alert, security agencies swung into action under established Standard Operating Procedures. Bomb Detection and Disposal Teams (BDDS) were immediately deployed to both locations, where they carried out extensive checks and scans. Access to the premises was tightly controlled as precautionary measures were enforced to safeguard staff and visitors.

Senior officers supervising operations

Senior officers, including the Additional DCP (Central), ACP Kamla Market and SHO IP Estate, supervised the operations at the Secretariat, while the ATO IP Estate oversaw searches at MAMC. Cyber Cell teams began analysing the origin of the email, with early findings suggesting similarities to previous hoax threats and indications that the message may have been misdirected from another state.

Authorities nonetheless treated the warning as credible, calling in support from the District Disaster Management Authority, traffic police and the Special Cell to ensure a coordinated response.

Recent trend of hoax bomb threats sent via emails

Officials stressed that there was no cause for public alarm and that the situation was under control. However, the episode comes against the backdrop of a string of recent hoax threats aimed at schools and public institutions in the city, raising concerns about a growing pattern of disruption. Security experts caution that such threats, even when false, divert vital resources and create unnecessary panic, underscoring the need for stronger cyber monitoring and deterrent measures.
