BMC polls: Public holiday today in Mumbai

To boost voter participation, the state has declared a public holiday in municipal areas on polling day. Counting of votes will begin at 10 am tomorrow (January 16), with final results expected by the end of the day.

Security arrangements have been tightened ahead of the civic polls. Around 25,000 police personnel, along with senior officers, have been deployed across Mumbai to ensure peaceful and smooth voting.

The previous BMC elections were conducted in 2017. The five-year term of the civic body ended on March 7, 2022, following which the municipal administration has been run by an appointed administrator.
