Kolkata Metro Update: Kolkata Metro’s services on Blue Line faced major disruptions on Monday evening, leaving peak-hour commuters stranded and frustrated. The issue began around 5:20 PM when a power failure was reported on the third line between Noapara and Dum Dum.
According to Metro officials, engineers were sent to the affected section immediately after the fault was detected. The service was restored within nine minutes, at 5:29 PM. However, passengers reported that operations remained irregular for hours, with limited trains running between Girish Park and Shahid Khudiram. Announcements at stations confirmed partial service but did not provide details about the cause, adding to commuter confusion.
The incident compounded the inconvenience already faced by passengers due to the closure of Kabi Subhash station, near New Garia, for platform pillar repairs. Initially expected to take a year, the repairs are now scheduled for completion within nine months. Metro authorities have assured that services to Kabi Subhash will resume once the work is finished. In the meantime, Shahid Khudiram is functioning as the southern terminus for the North-South corridor.
Many regular commuters say such disruptions have become common in the evenings. Passengers travelling from Dakshineswar often face unexplained halts of five to seven minutes at Shyambazar or Girish Park, followed by further delays at Kalighat, Rabindra Sarovar, or Mahanayak Uttamkumar stations.
