BLO attempts suicide by consuming poison in Meerut, family alleges torture

SIR’s work pressure became the reason?

The family alleges that Mohit was under extreme pressure for SIR (Special Intensive Revision) work. Mohit, a resident of Muralipur village of Muralipur police station area, is posted as Senior Assistant in the Irrigation Department and his BLO duty was put in Ward 57 Pallavapuram for the work of amending the voter list. Family members say that due to non-completion of the work, he was being continuously abused and harassed.

Supervisor accused of harassment

According to the family members, Mohit was mentally tortured by supervisor Ashish Sharma on December 2 also. Hurt by this, Mohit came home and consumed poisonous substance. The family is now demanding strict action against the officials.

The administration rejected the allegations

Officials say that Mohit’s work performance was satisfactory and nothing like harassment is in their knowledge. They are asking for a serious investigation of the entire matter.

Worrying incidents are continuously coming to light

Such incidents are not happening for the first time amid the SIR process. Till now, reports of suicide, heart attack and stress-related death of BLOs have come from many districts including Moradabad, Ballia, Deoria, Lucknow, Gonda and Fatehpur.
