Bimota KB399 launched based upon Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR

New Delhi: Bimota, Kawasaki’s bespoke arm in which it has a 49 per cent stake, has unveiled the KB399, a bike based on the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR. However, it comes with higher-spec elements than the latter and styling that is inspired by the KB998 Rimini.

The KB399 uses the ZX-4RR’s 399 cc inline-four liquid-cooled engine along with identical core specifications that include a 57.0mm x 39.1mm bore and stroke and 12.3:1 compression ratio. Bimota haven’t unveiled too many details about the output figures, but the engine in the ZX-4RR makes 80 bhp and 39 Nm of torque. As standard, the Bimota is offering a titanium Akrapovic exhaust, which could bump this number.

Chassis hardware has been enhanced in line with Bimota’s positioning. The standard KB399 comes with a fully adjustable 41mm Showa SFF-BP USD fork and a Showa BFRC-lite rear shock, while the higher-spec ES trim replaces the back unit with an Ohlins STX46 shock. Braking is handled by radially mounted Brembo Stylema monobloc callipers.

The design has been reworked as well and takes upon the KB998 Rimini, which includes the addition of winglets. The ES (Edizione Speciale) trim further stands apart with dry carbon fibre used for the upper, side and lower fairings. Bimota has also brought billet aluminium components like the triple clamps, steering stem can, and on the ES, there are even clip-ons and foot-peg assemblies.

Even though it shares the platform and engine with the ZX-4RR, the KB399, especially the ES form, is placed as a much more exclusive, low-volume alternative with upgraded components and distinct Italian styling.
