Bijli Mahadev Temple

Bijli Mahadev Temple: India is called the country of temples. There are many ancient and Sahasyami temples here, whose secrets no one has been able to know till date. A temple of Mahadev is also included in these temples. Every 12 years, a wonderful miracle is seen in that temple of Mahadev and the Shivalinga situated in the temple breaks. The name of the temple we are talking about is Bijli Mahadev Temple.

Bijli Mahadev Temple is situated on high hills in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. The temple is about 20 kilometers away from Kullu and at an altitude of about 7874 feet above sea level. Bijli Mahadev Temple is very simple in appearance. According to local people, lightning strikes the Shivalinga in the temple every 12 years. This is considered to be the divine leela of Lord Shiva.

Priest and local people add Shivalinga

According to beliefs, Lord Shiva himself allows lightning to fall on himself. So that the crises coming on earth can be ended in advance. When lightning falls on the Shivalinga in the temple, it breaks with a loud bang, but this is said to be a part of the tradition here. After a few days, the Shivlinga is attached with a paste of butter and sattu by the temple priest and local people.

Legend of the temple

After this, gradually the Shivalinga again starts looking as before. There is also a mythological story related to this temple. It is said that there was a demon named Kuntal. He wanted to drown the entire valley by stopping the water of Beas river. He frightened people by taking the form of a python, then Lord Shiva appeared and fought a battle with him. Lord Shiva won the war.

Kutnal’s tail caught fire, due to which he died. It is believed that Bijli Mahadev Temple was established on the mountain where Kuntal’s head fell. This is the reason why it is also called Kuntal Peeth.
