Bihar’s Unusual Love Story: 3 Girls Flee to Surat, Two Get Married, Third Becomes ‘Brother-in-law’

In a bizarre and surprising incident from Nawada, Bihar, three minor girls ran away from their homes overnight and travelled all the way to Surat, Gujarat.

There, two of them married each other-one taking the role of the groom and the other as the bride-while the third girl began living with them as the ‘brother-in-law’.

From Missing Case to a Shocking Discovery

The case came to light on Tuesday when Nemdarganj Police, along with Surat Police, traced the missing girls. According to police reports, the three were close friends studying in the same school. On July 19, they left home under the pretext of collecting their mark sheets. Two belonged to the same village while the third came from a nearby one.

After they went missing, their families searched for them for two days without success. On July 21, a missing person’s FIR was lodged at Nemdarganj Police Station. Investigation revealed that the trio had been working in a textile mill in Patel Nagar, Surat.

Marriage in Surat

The most shocking revelation was that two of the girls had tied the knot-one dressed and living as a groom, the other as a bride. The third took on the role of the brother-in-law, staying with the couple. When the police brought them back to Nawada, locals were stunned to see one girl wearing sindoor while the ‘husband’ stood beside her.

Police Response

Nemdarganj Police Station in-charge Vinay Kumar called it an “unusual case” and confirmed that all aspects are being investigated. “The legal course of action will be decided only after recording the girls’ statements,” he said.

The incident has sparked widespread curiosity and debate-not just in Nawada, but across Bihar-about friendship, unconventional relationships, and societal norms.
