Supreme Court said in the Bihar Voter List Revision case that if the illegality is proved, the entire voter list could be canceled. Questions raised on EC’s citizenship investigation, opposition accused BJP of collusion.

Bihar Assembly Election 2025: The Voter List Revision dispute in Bihar was heard in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. During the hearing, the petitioners, besides the petitioner Yogendra Yadav, the lawyers of the petitioners spoke in a sequential manner. The court made it clear that if the ‘Special Intensive Revision’ proves illegalism in the process, then the entire voter list can be canceled even two months before the election. The case is related to the dispute in which Election Commission (EC) has sought documents from Bihar voters to prove citizenship. The opposition alleges that EC does not have a constitutional right to decide citizenship.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi said in the court that you cannot doubt the citizenship of five crore people. EC only has to ensure identity, the Ministry of Home Affairs has the right to decide citizenship. Singhvi raised the question that if someone is already on the voter list, then how would EC decide whether he is a citizen or not.
