Bihar tourists litter in Darjeeling, local man makes them clean it up

New Delhi: A video shared on Reddit showcased a man in Darjeeling confronting a group of tourists from Bihar for littering in public. Not only did he ask them to pick up the waste, but also reprimanded them for their behaviour. The clip ignited a massive discussion on social media relating to the civic sense among Indians.

In the clip, a group of tourists travelling in a car stopped by a scenic place and threw out a bunch of trash, including a soiled diaper. A man passing through the street quickly stopped the tourists and began recording them. The anger person stated, “You threw a diaper here, pick it up.”

However, the driver tried to defend himself. He claimed that the place was already filled with garbage. “Leave that. We clean this place a lot. Pick up the diaper,” stated the man. One of the tourists then stepped out of  car and started to collect the trash. The local man then pointed to the vehicle’s number plate and enquired where they were from.

He asked, “Where are you from? Oh, you are from Bihar. Please pick up the trash. Don’t do like this. If others have littered, will you do it too?” Subsequently, the verbal altercation carried on and the annoyed tourist challenged the man to share the video. “See, this is how people from Bihar are. They should have thrown the child’s diaper in the dustbin but are littering outside,” said the annoyed man.

The clip was widely shared on Reddit. They slammed the man for justifying littering. They also questioned his audacity to defend himself. “This is exactly what’s the problem with Indians as a whole. We value conformity as a society, and hence follow a ‘herd mentality’, without bringing in a sense critical thinking or logic before making any decision,” said one.

Another added, “Kudos to him for pointing out littering and at least they picked up there trash, I hope they will not do this in future.”
