Voter list draft bihar deadline: There is only one day left for claims and objections under the ongoing voter list revision process (SIR) in Bihar. The last date for claims and objections is 1 September. The Election Commission on Sunday released a detailed description of the controversial voter list revision process in Bihar. It states that about 2,07,565 objections have been recorded to remove the names, while less than 33,326 applications have been received to get the name added. A statement issued by the Election Commission said that since August 1, 15,32,438 people who have become voters for the first time have applied for registration, which could lead to a significant increase in the number of 7.24 crore people released earlier in the final voter list. Just one day before the September 1 time limit for claims and objections, the Commission revealed that 2,07,565 exclusion requests have been presented against the applications to include 33,326 since the draft list was published on 1 August.
Hearing in Supreme Court on Monday on demand to extend the deadline
Booth-level agents appointed by political parties have so far filed 25 claims to include in the draft list and 103 claims. On Monday, the Supreme Court will hear a petition filed by the RJD and others, demanding the Election Commission (EC) to extend the time limit for filing claims in relation to those not included in the draft list during the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list. According to the Election Commission, 99.11 percent of the 7.24 crore voters of the state have submitted their documents for verification so far. The Supreme Court has now asked the election officials to accept the Aadhaar or the 11 documents listed from those wishing to include their names in the voter list. The Election Commission has urged the Supreme Court on its behalf to express confidence in the SIR process.
Election Commission rejected duplicate voter claim
Bihar Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Sunday dismissed media reports accusing the state draft voter list (SIR 2025) of large -scale repeat and termed these claims “speculation, prematurely and contrary to law”. In a post on X, the CEO insisted that SIR is a statutory process conducted under the Representation of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and Voter Registration Rules, 1960. While the CEO said, “SIR is a continuous statutory process conducted under the Representation of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and Voter Registration Rules.” The CEO of Bihar clarified that the current draft voter list is not final. The post reads, “These are clearly for public investigation, and invite claims and objections from voters, political parties and all other stakeholders. Without documentary and regional verification, these criteria cannot prove to be decisively.”

What did the Election Commission say by issuing a statement
The statement said that it is common in Bihar, especially in rural constituencies, names of many persons, parents’ names and even equal age names. The Supreme Court has recognized such demographic similarities as insufficient evidence of repetition without regional inquiry. The Chief Electoral Officer also dismissed the claims that the nominees were “locked” to hide the repetition, and said that there were security measures to protect the integrity of the data. He also dismissed speculation that millions of duplicates were “legally unstable” without verified evidence. Confirming the legal process, the Commission said that Section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 empowers the ERO to remove the duplicate if it is proved, and any voter or political party can formally register objections.
