Bihar Elections 2025: Why was FIR registered against BJP-INC and RJD together?

Regarding Bihar elections 2025, the Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) has registered an FIR against BJP, RJD and Congress. These parties are accused of spreading religious-caste hatred through social media. EOU has also created a special cell for monitoring.

Amidst the increasing excitement for Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, the Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) has taken a major step regarding the use of social media by political parties. EOU has registered an FIR against three major political parties namely Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress (INC) for posting inflammatory posts on social media platforms.

EOU DIG Manavjeet Singh Dhillon confirmed the action and said that attempts were being made to spread religious and caste hatred through the social media handles of these three parties. After detailed investigation, legal action has been taken against these parties.

Why was FIR registered?

According to DIG Dhillon, the social media monitoring team of EOU found that these political parties were circulating such content during the election campaign that could create religious and caste tension in the society. Such posts are in direct violation of the electoral code of conduct and attempts to disturb peace. He said, “After investigation, it became clear that objectionable and malicious content was shared through the social media handles of these three parties, after which an FIR has been registered as per rules.” This action clearly indicates that EOU will not tolerate any kind of anarchy in the digital space during the elections.

EOU constituted special social media cell

To keep a close watch on such activities, EOU has specially constituted an election cell. DIG Dhillon said that his team members are working in three shifts in this cell. The main function of this cell is to continuously monitor inflammatory speeches, misinformation (fake news) and posts spreading religious/caste hatred on social media, so that appropriate action can be taken in time.

Keep a close eye on the use of black money

Not just social media, EOU is also actively working to curb the use of black money in the state. EOU ADG Nayyar Hasnain Khan said that different teams are working day and night to stop illegal use of money during elections.

ADG Khan said, “Although this work is mainly done by the Income Tax Department, but we are trying from our side to stop economic crimes.” He has also spoken to the Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all the districts in this regard and has instructed them to exercise special vigilance. It is being ensured that the use of money power does not influence the election results.

This action by EOU is an important step towards maintaining transparency and fairness in the electoral environment of Bihar, and now all political parties will have to exercise utmost care in their social media campaigns.
