Bihar won less than 50% in 12 seats in the 2020 elections, out of which 9 NDA won. NDA benefited from low voting. Now the Grand Alliance for 2025 is focusing on these kingmaker seats to change the results.

Patna: Amid preparations for Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, political strategists are eyeing 12 seats where the voting percentage in the 2020 assembly elections was less than 50%. These seats played an important role in deciding the election results last time. Out of these 12 seats, 9 seats went to the NDA account, while the Grand Alliance got only 3 seats.

Statistics show that when the vote percentage was low in Bihar, the NDA benefited more. Therefore, in 2025, the grand alliance is also paying special attention to these low polling seats. The party believes that if voters are more active in urban and low voting areas, these seats can prove to be kingmaker.

BJP dominates urban seats

Three seats in Patna district were the lowest turnout in the elections of Kumhara, Bankipur and Digha 2020. Kumharhar had only 35.2% voting, 35.9% in Bankipur and 36.7% in Digha. BJP candidates won these seats by heavy votes.

  • Kumharar: Arun Kumar Sinha (BJP) – 81,400 votes

  • Digha: Sanjeev Chaurasia (BJP) – 97,044 votes
  • Gaya Urban: Prem Kumar (BJP) – 66,362 votes

Experts say that the BJP’s core voter in these areas remained stable and despite the low turnout, the party got a big benefit.

Strong hold of grand alliance

At the same time, the Grand Alliance performed better in urban and rural mixed seats.

  • Jamalpur: Ajay Kumar Singh (Congress) – 57,196 votes
  • Bhagalpur: Ajit Sharma (Congress) – victorious

The RJD succeeded in Muslim-Yadav equation seats like Shahpur and Islampur.

  • Shahpur: Rahul Tiwari (RJD) – 64,393 votes
  • Islampur: Rakesh Kumar Roshan (RJD) – 68,088 votes

JDU was successful in the Asthawan seat, while the BJP won the seats like Munger and Warsliganj.

2015 vs 2020: fall in voting

In the 2015 assembly elections, the polling percentage in Kumhar, Kumhar, Kumhar, Kumharr, Bankipur and Digha was 38-42%. But in 2020 it fell to 35-37%. The NDA benefited from this decline, while the Grand Alliance could not activate its traditional vote bank.
