Patna Students Protest: A major scuffle broke out between the protesting students and the Bihar police in Patna on Saturday, as the protesters gathered in the city against the paper leak for the second time in past three days.
The reports suggest that stones and bricks were pelted at the officials at several protesting sites, including Dak Bangalow Chowk and Gandhi Maidan.
Tej Pratap Yadav Detained
As per the reports, the protesters later climbed a mobile tower near Ramgulam Chowk and raised slogans against the Bihar government and police. Janashakti Janata Dal (JJD) president Tej Pratap Yadav also arrived at the site and supported the protesting students.
He waived the national flag and raised similar slogans against the police, leading to his detention. While talking to the reporters, Yadav stated that he has extended support to the students, adding that government should listen to their demands.
While talking to the reporters, Patna SSP stated that stones were pelted at the police during the protest, following which some students were taken into custody. He further stated that necessary steps have been taken to maintain law and order in the capital city.
Heavy Security In Patna
Apart from Patna, similar incidents were also reported in other districts, including Chhapra and Bhagalpur where the protesters reportedly clashed with the police officials.
Earlier, the left wing student unions called for Bihar Bandh on Saturday, leading to heavy security deployment in Patna and other cities. The reports suggest that at least 70 thousand soldiers have been deployed on duty across the state to maintain the law and order.
Along with the state police, CRPF and CISF personnel have also been deployed in the sensitive districts. Apart from this, administration has also closed schools in many districts as a precautionary step. Along with Patna, heavy deployment has been done in ten districts, including Jehanabad, Muzaffarpur, Begusarai, and Katihar.
