Loco pilot stopped the train as soon as it reached Thakurganj

By the time the train reached platform number 1 of Thakurganj railway station at around 2:52 pm, the loco pilot’s 9-hour duty had been completed. In such a situation, citing railway rules, he refused to take the train further and stopped the train at the station itself.

Guard and station master arrived to explain

After the train stopped, the guard and station master talked to the loco pilot and requested him to take the train to Siliguri. But the loco pilot clearly said that he had already given a memo from Dalkhola station that his duty time limit was about to be completed. If the train had run on time, he would have reached his destination. After this the loco pilot took his luggage and got down from the train.

The train stood at the station for three hours

After the loco pilot disembarked, the train stood at Thakurganj station for about three hours. Platform number 1 was also affected by this. Hundreds of passengers going to Siliguri, Kishanganj and surrounding areas were present in the train. Many passengers also expressed their displeasure due to the long wait.

What do the railway rules say?

According to railway rules, no loco pilot can be required to perform duty for more than 9 to 10 hours continuously. After this it is necessary to give them rest. Railway officials say that this rule has been made keeping in mind the safety of the passengers, so that there is no risk in train operation due to fatigue.

Train started after arrival of second loco pilot

According to railway sources, another loco pilot was not immediately available at Thakurganj station, due to which the train had to wait for a long time. During this time, some passengers boarded the second train that came from behind and left for Siliguri. Later, after the arrival of another driver from Siliguri, the DMU train was sent ahead. Only then did the passengers heave a sigh of relief.
