New Delhi: Team India opener Abhishek Sharma again failed to score runs in the must-win Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, March 1. The world No.1 batter returned to form in the last match against Zimbabwe with a 26-ball fifty, but flopped in the crucial match against the West Indies.
He looked out of touch against the West Indies attack and was removed by Akeal Hosein for 10 off 11 balls in the third over. Hosein bowled a back-of-length delivery, and Abhishek went on the backfoot for a pull shot, but Hetmyer took a simple catch at deep square-leg.
Abhishek has been in poor form in the ongoing tournament, registering three consecutive ducks. He scored 15 runs in India’s first Super 8 clash against South Africa. But got back to his best after taking some time in the middle during the clash against Zimbabwe.
The Indian fans expected Abhishek to fire again in the crucial Super 8 match against the West Indies, but the Indian opener managed to score just 10 runs. He has amassed just 80 runs in six T20 World Cup matches at an average of 13.33, including one fifty.
Indian fans criticise Abhishek Sharma
The biggest disappointment of #T20WorldCup2026 so far is hands down Abhishek Sharma. A total flop with the bat and uncharacteristically poor in the field. #TeamIndia

Abhishek Sharma should not be in the playing XI after this match.
He doesn’t deserve it.#indiavswestindies https://t.co/7nGMoGgK0i— Banku Bhaiya (@AshishChaubey11) March 1, 2026

Abhishek Sharma repeatedly plays poor shots at crucial moments, putting the team under pressure. On the big stage, this lack of responsibility has now become a serious concern.#INDvsWI pic.twitter.com/e5YcPWYW4V
