In the 27th match of the Women’s Big Bash League 2025-26, Adelaide Strikers women’s team and Sydney Thunder women’s team faced each other. There was a huge uproar in this match. Actually, Sydney Thunder had almost confirmed its victory in this match, but then the umpire took a big decision and canceled the match. The reason for this was rain, which broke the hearts of the Sydney Thunder team.

There was interruption of rain in this match, due to which this match was played of 5-5 overs. In this match played at Adelaide Oval, the Strikers, batting first, scored 45 runs for 2 wickets in 5 overs. Opener Laura Woolworth made an aggressive start in the Strikers’ innings, scoring 22 runs in 13 balls, which included two fours and a six. Captain Tahlia McGrath added 12 runs on 6 unbeaten balls, but the team’s score could not reach much. The Thunder’s bowlers made a tight start, with Shabnim Ismail taking one wicket for six runs in an over, while Lucy Finn took one wicket for 12 runs.
While chasing the target, Thunder started with a bang. Added 13 runs in the first over itself, even though it was raining. Opener Phoebe Lichfield batted brilliantly and scored unbeaten 38 runs in 15 balls, which included five fours. He hit four consecutive fours in one over of Darcy Brown. Thunder had made a score of 35/0 after the second over, which was giving a strong indication towards victory. But at the end of the third over there was rain interruption.

Thunder scored 43 runs in 2.5 overs without losing any wicket, but then heavy rain stopped the game. Thunder needed the last 3 runs to win, but the umpires canceled the match citing the ball being slippery. Which surprised everyone. Thunder’s young star Phoebe Litchfield expressed her disappointment over the cancellation of the match and said, ‘Very disappointed. This is shameful. On the other hand, Strikers captain Tahlia McGrath said, ‘Difficult decision. The rain had stopped but the ball had become slippery, the umpires took the right call.
