Big Update for Investors! Stock Market Holiday 2026 Announced; Check When NSE & BSE Will Be Closed

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has officially released the complete list of trading holidays for 2026, giving investors, traders and market participants ample time to prepare trading strategies & maintain positions before the stock market holiday 2026.

According to the notification, the stock market will remain closed for 15 days in 2026 on account of national festivals, religious occasions and public holidays. On these days, trading will be suspended across equities, equity derivatives, SLB and currency segments.

NSE Holidays 2026: Full List of Stock Market Closures

As per the official NSE trading holidays list for 2026, the markets will be closed on key occasions such as Republic Day, Holi, Ram Navami, Mahavir Jayanti, Good Friday, Ambedkar Jayanti, Maharashtra Day, Bakri Id, Muharram, Ganesh Chaturthi, Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, Diwali, Guru Nanak Jayanti and Christmas.

January 2026: The year begins with a market holiday on January 26, a Monday, on account of Republic Day. and is one of the most important stock market holidays in January 2026.

March 2026: March will be one of the most disrupted months for trading in 2026, with three stock market holidays scheduled. The markets will remain shut on March 3 (Tuesday) for Holi, March 26 (Thursday) for Shri Ram Navami, and March 31 (Tuesday) for Shri Mahavir Jayanti.

April 2026: April will see two trading holidays. The NSE will remain closed on April 3 (Friday) for Good Friday, creating a long weekend for markets, and again on April 14 (Tuesday) for Dr B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti.

May 2026: On May 1, 2026, Friday, the stock market will remain closed for Maharashtra Day, which celebrates the formation of the state.

June 2026: June will have two stock market holidays. The market will remain closed on June 26 (Friday) for Bakri Id. Earlier in the month, Muharram is also listed as a trading holiday.

September 2026: After a relatively active July and August, markets will shut on September 14, 2026 (Monday), for Ganesh Chaturthi. This festival is widely observed in Maharashtra, because of which it is one of the major stock market holidays in September 2026.

October 2026: In the holiday-heavy month of October, the NSE will remain closed on October 2 (Friday) for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and on October 20 (Tuesday) for Dussehra.

November 2026: November will see two major stock market holidays. Markets will remain shut on November 10 (Tuesday) for Diwali-Balipratipada. Another closure follows on November 24 (Tuesday) for Prakash Gurpurb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev. Diwali holidays are especially important for Muhurat trading planning.

December 2026: The final stock market holiday of 2026 falls on December 25 (Friday) for Christmas.

With 15 official NSE trading holidays and weekends excluded, investors can expect around 250 active trading sessions in 2026. While the NSE and BSE holiday lists are largely similar, investors are advised to cross-check segment-wise holidays, especially for commodity and currency markets, which may follow a slightly different schedule. However, for equity markets, most NSE trading holidays in 2026 will coincide with BSE closures.
