Indian Railways
Air travel has started getting affected due to flight cancellations and air turbulence, the direct impact of which is now being seen on Indian Railways. To handle the sudden increase in the rush of passengers, Railways has added 116 additional coaches in 37 trains. These additional coaches will be installed in 114 trips, so that there will be no shortage of seats during the journey and passengers can travel without hassle.
Southern Railway installed maximum number of coaches
All the major zones of Indian Railways seem to be active in view of the increasing demand. Taking the biggest step, Southern Railway has installed additional coaches of chair car and sleeper class in 18 trains from December 6. Apart from this, keeping in mind the heavily crowded routes, Northern Railway has increased 3AC and chair car coaches in 8 trains. Keeping in view the demand, Western Railway has also included 2AC and 3AC coaches in 4 important trains.
In the eastern parts, Eastern Railway has added sleeper coaches in 3 long distance trains between December 7-8, while Northeast Frontier Railway has added 3AC and sleeper class coaches in 2 major trains between December 6-13.
Capacity increased in many long distance trains
Information about coach increase in some major trains has also been released. Additional 2AC coaches have been installed in 12309 Rajendra Nagar New Delhi Express in five trips from 6th to 10th December. Similarly, on Bhubaneswar-New Delhi route (20817/20823/20811), 2AC coaches have been added in five different trips.
Zone-wise number of coaches to be increased is as follows
- Southern Railway 18 Trains
- Eastern Railway 3 Trains
- Northeast Frontier Railway 2 Trains
- Northern Railway 8 Trains
- Western Railway 4 Trains
The reason for increasing bookings in all zones is being attributed to the frequent flight cancellations of Indigo, due to which a large number of passengers are shifting towards trains.
Four special trains were run for the convenience of passengers
In view of the sudden increase in crowd, Railways has also started four special trains. These include Gorakhpur Anand Vihar Terminal Special, Nizamuddin Thiruvananthapuram Superfast Special, New Delhi Mumbai Central Superfast Special and New Delhi Captain Tushar Mahajan Vande Bharat Special.
