The Board of Control for Cricket in India has ordered senior players of Team India, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to play in domestic cricket. The board has said that if both of them want to make a place in Team India for the ODI format, then they will have to play in the domestic tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy. Only after this order, a report claimed that after BCCI’s order, Rohit Sharma had given his consent to play in this tournament and had also informed Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) about it. But now MCA has revealed that at present they have not received any response from the former Indian captain.

Rohit Sharma, who returned to the Indian team from the ODI series on Australia tour a few days ago, has his eyes set on the World Cup 2027. He has spoken about this many times before but BCCI and the current team management are not sure about it because Rohit’s age is also increasing and his performance in recent times was also not special. But by scoring the most runs including a century on the Australia tour, Rohit had shown that he is still in full form.

However, despite this, BCCI has given a clear message and asked Rohit and Virat to play domestic cricket so that they remain match fit. In view of this, a report claimed that Rohit had told MCA that he would be available for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. But now MCA Chief Select Sanjay Patil has revealed that at present no contact has been made from Rohit’s side. According to a report in Times of India, Patil said, “I have not received any message from Rohit Sharma yet. If he plays for Mumbai, it will be good for us. It will also prove to be good for the youth. BCCI, Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir have taken this very good step.”

The picture regarding whether Rohit Sharma will play in Vijay Hazare Trophy or not will become clear in the coming days. As far as this tournament is concerned, it will start from 24th December and will be played till 11th January 2026. In such a situation, it should not have any impact on the India-South Africa ODI series starting from November 30. However, just before this ODI series, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will start from 26th November. Now whether both the legends will have to play in this tournament also for selection for the ODI series, it is not clear at the moment.
